On Sunday, October 16, 2011 KABC & NPCDC celebrated Youth Day with our guest Dr. Sherle Boone, Executive Director of The WEB DuBois Scholars Institute at Princeton University delivering a transformational message to the Youth of this community.
Who is Dr. Boone:
As founder and current Executive Director of the W.E.B. DuBois Scholars Institute, Dr. Sherle L. Boone was guided by an inspired sense of duty to help people and make America better. In 1988, the W.E.B. Dubois Scholars Institute was founded with the aim of solving problems, such as poverty, urban decay, and disintegrating families. The institute provides training to equip young burgeoning scholars and leaders with the skills and confidence to function as effective “change agents” in their schools, communities, and the community at large.
The success of the W.E.B. DuBois Scholars Institute speaks for itself. Since its inception, over 1,400 students have benefited from participating in the institute, including approximately 300 high-achieving youth from the city of Newark, NJ. Approximately 98.5% of participants attend college and graduate and the organization has produced 2 Fulbright Scholars, 2 Gates Millennium Scholars as well as 1 Rhodes Scholar.
